Logitech® io™2 Digital Writing System
Blog By Elizabeth Clark | November 03, 2005
Category: miscellaneous (eg, anything else)

I started a new job, well actually two new jobs. The Logitech io2 Digital Writing System is just the gadget I needed for note taking while learning the new products I now sell. I write, the pen records, I download it and the software transfers my handwriting into text. Sweet and simple, yes?

How does it work? “When you write with the pen, a tiny camera with an optical sensor captures your work and registers the pen’s movements, while a processor digitizes your words and images. After placing the pen in the cradle, all your information gets transferred to your PC or on a network server.” Once it is on my PC MyScript Notes software turns it into text. It really is that easy.

The downside if there is one, is that you have to “train” MyScript Notes to read your handwriting. For some of you, that may be a near impossible feat. Fortunately, my handwriting is readable although it takes a bit of time for training. “It involves copying 50 sentences and two alphabet and character sets into your own handwriting using the io2 pen and digital paper. The samples are then uploaded into your computer, and you are given the opportunity to verify the accuracy of your writing samples against the sample sets. After making the necessary corrections, the information is used to generate a recognition profile allowing MyScript Notes to better identify your handwritten notes.”

There is a new addition to MyScript Notes called My Script Editor, which I don’t have, yet. I need to upgrade. The MyScript Notes and Editor software is free with the purchase of the Logitech io2 Digital Writing System. Of course there are lots of special papers available.

I like the fact that I can hand write a note and email it. It is the personal touch of handwritten letter with the ease and speed of email. The best the old world letters and the new tech world we are evolving into.

Besides note taking for the new jobs, I also use it to write nonfiction and journaling. (In my spare time.) I discovered that when I hand write my stories, I am using the right side of my brain which process creativity and intuition. When I type my stories, while it may be easier, I am using the left side of my brain which handles the analytical objective processing. By using the io2 pen to hand write and the software to convert it to text I have the best of both worlds. It is using both sides of my brain. Now, if the Logitech io2 pen could only get me published, I would bow down and worship it. Instead, I’ll just put it back into its cradle to recharge for tomorrow’s learning and another day’s writing.
